I couldn't possibly catalogue all of the events, blissful and dolorous, that the community and individual members encountered this month. However, I can tell you that our very own Maureen and Malcolm hatched Andrew Norman in time for him to join them for their 1st wedding anniversary. You can see from the photo that he is a picture. Congratulations to all the Johnstons on a good birth and a bonny baby.
In between times, the L'Arche Belfast Lagan Walk, the Plant and Craft Sale, and a L'Arche Ireland retreat had various members walking, working and welling-up. But really, Mary Egan's farewell party was most bitter-sweet, aside from her pink cowboy hat which was pure fashion. I know that there are more cowboys in Argentina, but I am sure that Mary will make a home and a community of friends in Brazil with that hat. On the serious side, Mary's four years here in Belfast have brought joy to many and laughter to most. She will remain our special friend in the sun and we do hope that the community's 10th Anniversary will find us all dancing to Neil Diamond on a Brazilian beach, guests of Mary Egan.
Old friends do pop in, and we've had Geert and his girlfriend Nala in June. They might even have had a couple days without rain as they toured Northern Ireland.
On another level, Jillian has made herself at home in Geert's Room. Oh, I know, it's a long time since Geert lived in it and it was Mary Egan's in between (and others, too) but for me it shall always be Geert's room even once Jillian's perfumes and soaps have penetrated the walls and her music has begun to crack the plaster!
I leave you with the knowledge that L'Arche Kilkenny, and indeed L'Arche in Ireland, wrapped up their 30th anniversary celebration in fine style this past weekend. Paddy Delaney, Helen O'Shea, Fanny Kennedy and a whole gang of others I can't just recall on short notice began living together Moorefield House, Kilmoganny. They couldn't have known what love and hope would come of their simple start together. If I had a picture of the thought in my head these past weeks I would post it right now. You'll have to imagine it yourself:

Paddy Delaney, in his mid-thirties with hair and 70s attire, holding the hand of a 1-year old Jillian Gould with her golden hair and bright smile. From one end of L'Arche Ireland's history to the other, 2 founding core members.
