Hi folks, What a year o look back on .. a year when everything we had planned fell away and everything that we were given came as an unexpected gift. None more than this moment here in the office with Maureen who is bubbling with an idea that creates the world that we are committed to… I hand you over to Maureen…
“I am so excited!! How utterly fantastic would it be if we as members and friends of L'Arche realised the dream we have of spreading only Good News, building community and helping all of those around us to live to their full potential. How amazing would it be if we were to be stretched beyond anything we thought possible doing it. And what if we not only built community through our words, relationships, and love but through bricks and mortar too!!! Oh yes, it really could happen!! This July I will be co-leading a Habitat for Humanity (HFH) trip to Guatemala to build simple, decent, affordable homes to help restore a community that has been broken and bruised for years. I planned this as Maureen, but while praying for my team I realised I am part of a community, I am part of a people who aspires to help make the world a better place. Lets do it together! Whether you are 18 or 88 you could come and build with us!!! No matter what your age, race, creed or ability, you could be part of it. I have been on HFH trips before and the reward of helping a family build a house to accommodate a home is unfathomable. As Thomas would say "You just have to do it!" Come!!!! Come as you are, we can be a witness of stepping out and shining. “Do not say I am only…” Jer 1: 7 there is room for everybody. Ask me to fetch anything other than a hammer and I am lost-even at that the risk of the hammer landing on my toe is quite high. I kid you not, I have many hilarious embarrassing moments, amazing memories and a changed heart to share. So could you. It is all part of the HFH experience.
We will be building alongside homeowner families who invest their own labour building their home and those of their neighbours!
I challenge you, especially those of you whose first thought was “great idea but not for me…” Think about it, pray about it and really discern it then after you have come to your decision think about and pray for us!! For more info contact me at mo60@hotmail.com
